  3.           HOW TO BUILD A HIERARCHICAL ADDRESS

  5. A hierarchical address is composed of 4 parts:
  6.  
  7. 1. Region (optional)
  8. 6 characters maximum starting with a "#" character. Indicates a region
  9. within a province or state.
  10.  
  11. Example: W6MNO.#SOCAL.CA.USA.NA  (SOCAL = South California)
  12.  
  13. 2. Province or state (if applicable)
  14. 2 characters corresponding to postal services designators.
  15. For example, "PQ" for Quebec.
  16.  
  17. Example: VE2PAK.PQ.CAN.NA
  18.  
  19. 3. Country
  20. 3 characters. "CAN" for Canada.
  21.  
  22. 4. Continent
  23. 2 characters designating the continent. "NA" for North America.

  25. NOTES:
  26. 1. The dot "." character separating each element of the address is very
  27. important.
